A 6500 órányi adást tartalmazó, 60 darab 14 sávos magnószalag innen csak a kilencvenes évek elején került elő, gyakorlatilag lejátszhatatlan állapotban. A SZER munkatársai azonban egy hagyományos lejátszóból, erősítőből és számítógépekből külön erre a célra összeállított eszköz segítségével digitalizálták és hallgathatóvá tették a végül MP3 formátumban 60 CD-re rögzített műsorokat. Jóllehet a műsorok átiratainak szerkesztett változata már nem sokkal a forradalom után elérhetővé vált, az OSA, a SZER kutatóintézete archívumának őrzője, most ezekből (az Országos Széchényi Könyvtárban is megtalálható) ritka hangfelvételekből tesz közzé néhányat. Az itt hallgatható korszakos műsorok 1956. október 22-november 13 között hangzottak el. A felvételek válogatása során azt tartottuk szem előtt, hogy a mai hallgató minél teljesebb képet kapjon arról, hogy hogyan és milyen hazai és nemzetközi politikai helyzetben zajlottak a magyar forradalom eseményei, és a SZER adásai hogyan közvetítették azokat a hallgatóknak. A teljes napi műsorfolyamból így elsősorban a történeti és politikai, de olykor hangulati szempontból is fontos műsorokat szemezgettük ki: a minden egész órában elhangzott hírblokkokat, az események hátterének és következményeinek elemzéseit, nemzetközi lapszemléket, politikai kommentárokat, illetve a rádió New York-i szerkesztőinek és nyugati (bécsi, párizsi, londoni) tudósítóinak jegyzeteit. A forradalom leverése után különös jelentőséget nyertek azok az üzenetküldő műsorok, amelyekben az országból elmenekülő tízezrek a rádió hullámhosszán próbálták szeretteiket értesíteni arról, hogy megérkeztek valahová és jól vannak. A hidegháború idején szokásos német, portugál és spanyol (itt voltak a rádiónak átjátszóállomásai) műsorszórási előírásoknak megfelelően a SZER csupán néhány hónapig őrizte meg a kimenő adásainak felvételeit, azután újrahasznosította az azokat tartalmazó magnószalagokat.
